#BlogTour #BookReview Twisted Lies by Angela Marsons. @bookouture @Write_Angie #TwistedLies #CrimeThriller

Today it is my stop on the blog tour for Twisted Lies by Angela Marsons, another cracking read in the Kim Stone series. Thank you to Bookouture for having me on the tour and for a copy of Twisted Lies, I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

How does she do it? That’s what I ask myself every time I read a book in the DI Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons. There are not many series that I keep reading for fifteen books and still love as much as I did at the start, or possibly even more. Most series have lost their way by now, the author struggling to find new and interesting storylines and the characters become stagnant and predictable. Not here though.

I love the characters and watching them grow and it has been great to follow them over the years, there is absolutely nothing stagnant about these books and I love how the passion of the author comes out in her writing. It is clear that she researches thoroughly and writes about subjects that interests her as the passion comes out in the story.

Those of you that have read previous books in the Kim Stone series will know how good this book is going to be. If you haven’t then start with the first book, Silent Scream. You won’t regret it!!

Once again the reader is taken on a twisted journey and I loved every page. I can’t wait for the next book!!

Blurb:

Her stomach lurches as she sits in the windowless room. He throws her phone to the ground, grinds it against the floor with the heel of his shoe and brings his face closer to hers. There was no turning back now, her life as she knew it was gone.

When the lifeless body of a man is found on an industrial estate, Detective Kim Stone arrives on the scene and discovers he’s been tortured in the worst way imaginable.

But as she breaks the devastating news to the victim’s wife, Diane Phipps, Kim can’t help feeling that something isn’t quite right about the woman’s reaction.

Twenty-four hours later, the victim’s family disappears into thin air.

Then a second body is found staked to the ground in a local nature reserve.

Desperate to crack the case open quickly, Kim and her team unravel a vital clue – a fiercely guarded secret that links both victims and could cost even more lives.

A secret that some police officers are also protecting.

Faced with deceit from those she should be able to trust, family members who won’t talk, and local reporter, Tracy Frost, opening a can of worms on the case of a woman murdered by her husband a year ago – Kim is in deep water like never before.

Kim must find the motive if she is to find the killer who is systematically targeting and torturing his victims. But can she unlock the shocking truth and stop him before he strikes again?

An absolutely jaw-dropping crime thriller from the number one, multi-million-copy bestselling author of the incredibly addictive Detective Kim Stone series.

#BookReview #BlogTour Her Shallow Grave D.K. Hood. @bookouture @DKHood_Author #HerShallowGrave

Yay, another book by the fabulous DK Hood who takes us back to Black Rock Falls, a place that I will never tire of virtually visiting although I’m not sure that I want to visit in real life given the crime there. But I do love these books and so I was delighted to be able to read this one and be part of the blog tour, thank you to Noelle and Bookouture for having me on the tour.

My Review:

I love this series, it is still going strong with addictive storylines and great characters. I love how the characters have grown over the series and I can’t wait to see where they are going to go next.

There aren’t many book series that I keep reading, many kind of lose their steam a little and can feel as though the author is writing them for the wrong reasons. This is not one of those series.

How DK Hood keeps coming up with the storylines I don’t know, the twisted way that people are murdered are so original and I love reading how the characters deal with, and solve, the latest crime spree.

Her Shallow Grave is another great read in the series, I love catching up with the characters and it all feels really real, I can see the settings and the people in my mind which is the sign of a great book.

If you haven’t read any of this series before then you are really missing out. They can be read out as standalone books but it is always better to start at the beginning and let the characters develop as you read.

Roll on the next book, I can’t wait to see how the next crime wave in Black Rock Falls turns out.

Blurb:

She runs her trembling fingers over the dark, damp walls surrounding her. Above her head, she hears heavy footsteps. She knows she has nowhere to hide and as the door to the cellar is flung open, she finally sees his face.

It’s winter in Black Rock Falls and, as tourists flock to the small town to take in the snowy mountain peaks, one visitor makes a sickening discovery. The frozen body of a young woman hangs from a tree on the outskirts of town. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate.

Jenna’s stomach turns as she surveys the ice-cold remains, and she’s soon alerted to similar burial sites nearby. With no missing persons reported, Jenna and her deputy, David Kane, fear Black Rock Falls is being used as a dumping ground for bodies.

As the body count mounts up, Jenna is more determined than ever to find the person responsible. But as she tries to catch the killer out, he outsmarts her once again and Jenna begins to wonder if he knows her next move. Could he be closer to her than she thinks?

When the investigation takes Jenna to a homeless shelter right in the heart of the community, she fears for the life of a woman who hasn’t been seen for a few days. It’s clear the killer is beginning to escalate, so Jenna ramps up the investigation and puts herself in unthinkable danger. Can she catch the murderer off guard, or does he already know she’s on her way? Has Jenna finally met a killer she can’t catch?

If you like Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot, you will love this thrilling new book from bestselling crime author D.K. Hood.

**Each Kane and Alton book can be read as part of the series or as a standalone**

#BookReview #BlogTour Killing Mind by Angela Marsons @WriteAngie @bookouture #KillingMind #BooksOnTour @ifonlyread

While life is very unusual and uncertain at the moment in lockdown but there is one thing that we can be sure of, a damn good read from Angela Marsons. I’m delighted to be part of the blog tour for Killing Mind and I was delighted to be asked by Bookouture to be part of it. I received a copy of Killing Mind but I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

It is hard to believe that Killing Mind is the twelfth book in the Kim Stone series. Over the years I have read many other series but I don’t think that there has been one that I have still been enjoying at book twelve. Kim Stone has staying power and keeps readers enjoying and desperately waiting for more.

One thing that I love is that Angela Marsons picks topics for her books that she is interested in herself, that interest and the subsequent research that the author clearly does means that the books feel fresh and interesting and, frankly, a joy to read.

I still love the characters and how they have developed, every books sees them face challenges and more forward in their story.

If you haven’t read any of Angela Marsons’ books then you are in for a treat, I do think that every book can be read as a standalone, but you will be missing out on an amazing journey and some cracking reads so I really would start from the beginning.

There really is something special about Angela Marsons and her writing, I love visiting Kim Stone and her team as they solve crimes, it really does feel like I am visiting friends and although I am always disappointed when the visit is over, I know that it won’t be too long before the next visit, and that one will be just as good as all the visits before.

Roll on book thirteen…

Blurb:

It had seemed so simple. Get in, get the information, get out. But now they were getting inside her mind and she didn’t know how to stop them…

When Detective Kim Stone is called to the home of Samantha Brown, she finds the young woman lying in bed with her throat cut and a knife in her hand. With no sign of forced entry or struggle, Kim rules her death a tragic suicide.

But a visit to Samantha’s parents rings alarm bells for Kim – there’s something they’re not telling her. And, when she spots a clue in a photograph, Kim realises she’s made a huge mistake. Samantha didn’t take her own life, she was murdered.

Then a young man’s body is found in a local lake with his throat cut and Kim makes a link between the victim and Samantha. They both spent time at Unity Farm, a retreat for people seeking an alternative way of life.

Beneath the retreat’s cosy façade, Kim and her team uncover a sinister community preying on the emotionally vulnerable.

Sending one of her own undercover into Unity Farm is high risk but it’s Kim’s only hope if she is to catch a killer – someone Kim is convinced the victims knew and trusted.

With Bryant distracted by the emergence of a harrowing case close to his heart, and an undercover officer in way over her head, Kim’s neck is on the line like never before. Can she protect those closest to her before another life is taken?

An unbelievably gripping crime thriller from multi-million copy bestseller Angela Marsons that will have you hooked on the Detective Kim Stone series.

#BlogTour #BookReview Dead Wrong by Noelle Holton. @nholten40 @OneMoreChapter_ @BOTBSPublicity #DeadWrong @harpercollinsuk

Today it is my stop on the blog tour for Dead Wrong by Noelle Holten. Dead Wrong is the second book in a thrilling series, you can read my review of the first book, Dead Inside, here but I do believe that this book can be read as a standalone.

I received a copy of Dead Wrong by Noelle Holten from the publisher, I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

I really enjoyed the first book in the Maggie Jameson series, Dead Inside, by Noelle Holten so I was really keen to read Dead Wrong. What surprised me was that Dead Wrong is even better than the first book, the writing is so assured and confident and there are plenty of twists and turns and goodness, the cliffhanger…

It was nice to touch base with some of the characters again, although one of my favourite characters from the first book barely featured in Dead Wrong but I am hopeful that they will have more of a role in future books.

The storyline is suitably gruesome, with plenty of unexpected twists. I could really see the difference between the authors’ debut novel and this one, you can see how the writing has matured and grown in confidence. I’m really blown away by the difference and I cannot wait to see what the author will give us next. Noelle Holten is definitely an author to watch.

Blurb:

The serial killer is behind bars. But the murders are just beginning…

DC Maggie Jamieson’s past comes back to haunt her in this dark and gripping serial killer thriller.

Three missing women running out of time…

They were abducted years ago. Notorious serial killer Bill Raven admitted to killing them and was sentenced to life.

The case was closed – at least DC Maggie Jamieson thought it was…

But now one of them has been found, dismembered and dumped in a bin bag in town.

Forensics reveal that she died just two days ago, when Raven was behind bars, so Maggie has a second killer to find.

Because even if the other missing women are still alive, one thing’s for certain: they don’t have long left to live…

#bookanniversary #KimStone Silent Scream by Angela Marsons anniversary celebration. @WriteAngie @bookouture

Silent Scream by Angela Marsons.

It is hard to believe that today marks five years since Silent Scream by Angela Marsons was released. Now, you might be wondering why I am writing a blog post about it because it isn’t like I normally mark a publication anniversary. But Silent Scream is not a normal book.

Silent Scream was the start of a journey, one of ups and downs, laughter and tears and the start of making new friends. Ok, ok, those friends are fictional but that doesn’t make any difference. Twelve books later, and one fabulous prequel, the series is going strong and has sold millions of copies all over the world.

There really is something special about the series that is set in the Black Country and focuses on Detective Inspector Kim Stone and her team. Kim Stone is one amazing character, she has an amazing back story and she is so believable and I would love to meet her and have a good chat. She has led her team through some pretty awful things and some very disturbing crimes and all of the team have grown and evolved over the years.

I think that I can comfortably say that the Kim Stone series is my favourite series that I have read. It is impressive that the series is still going strong after so many books and that is down the Angela Marsons, the fabulous author of the series. It is hard to believe that many publishers turned her books down until Bookouture saw the potential and signed her up. I bet that is a decision that they are delighted with.

I’m not sure what else I can say, hopefully if you haven’t read any of the DI Kim Stone series then I may have convinced you to give them a try. I’m pretty confident that if you have read some or all of the books that you agree with all that I have said.

I have reviewed most, but not all, of the books on my blog because some I read before I started reviewing on here but it is hard to believe that for every one of them, I have given them five stars. That is crazy and just shows how brilliant they are. If you want to read the reviews that I have written on this blog then you can find them here.

Book twelve in the series is looming and I cannot wait to read it! And when I do I will be sitting there sipping from my fabulous Silent Scream anniversary mug.

You can find all of Angela Marsons books on her Amazon page. There are also some special events on the Bookouture Facebook page on 20th March 2020 to celebrate the anniversary.

#BlogTour #BookReview The Girl In The Grave by Helen Phifer. @helenphifer1 @bookouture #TheGirlInTheGrave #BooksOnTour

When I heard that Helen Phifer had a new series coming out I knew that I wanted to read it, although I was slightly miffed that she was not writing another book in the Detective Lucy Harwin series that I enjoy reading! But all is forgiven.

I received a copy of this book from the publishers. I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

This book starts with a bang when what should be a routine exhumation turns into something far more sinister when they find a body that had been under the now removed coffin. Detective Josh Walker is called to investigate the unexpected body, aided by Beth Adams, the pathologist who will examine the body.

Things quickly take a turn for the worst when another young woman goes missing and it is clear that the two were taken by the same man. Will they manage to find the second woman before it’s too late?

We quickly find out that there is more to Josh and Beth than a working relationship, after Josh helped rescue Beth from an attack that changed her life in many ways.

I really liked Beth as a character, there was something about her that I really liked and identified with. We found out less about Josh but he seems to be a promising character.

As always with Helen Phifer books, The Girl In The Grave is fast paced, easy to read and thrilling. It always takes a few books in a new series to properly settle in and become part of a the readers lives and for the characters to feel like part of our world, but I can see Beth settling into my character family very quickly.

I will most definitely be reading more books in this series and pretty much any book by Helen Phifer.

 Blurb:

At least they’d found her. Once the site was processed and the girl’s body removed, they’d be able to identify her so that her family could give her the burial she deserved. This innocent girl was far too young to be lying in a grave, crushed under the weight of someone else’s coffin…

When the body of a teenage girl is found hidden inside a stranger’s grave in a small-town cemetery in the Lake District, an urgent call is made to Forensic Pathologist Beth Adams. One look at the beautiful girl’s broken body is enough to bring Beth out of hiding for the first time since an attempt on her own life…

Beth doesn’t believe it’s a coincidence that the victim was found the same day a threatening gift was left on the doorstep of her secluded home. Her instincts are telling her that it’s a trap, that she should run for safety. But she knows she’s the only one with the expertise to help her trusted friend, Detective Josh Walker, crack the most shocking case of his career.

The tiny traces of material Beth finds beneath the victim’s fingernails is the break in the case the team need to chase down this twisted killer. But this critical lead comes at a dangerous price, exposing Beth’s whereabouts and dragging her back into the line of fire once again.

With Beth’s own life on the line, the investigation is already cracking under the pressure. Then another local girl goes missing… Can Beth stay alive long enough to catch the killer before he claims his next victim?

An absolutely gripping new crime thriller that will grab fans of Patricia Gibney, LJ Ross and Angela Marsons from the very first page and leave them gasping for breath by the last.

#BookReview #BlogTour Whisper In The Night by DK Hood. @bookouture #BooksOnTour @DKHood_Author

I’m delighted to be part of the blog tour for one of my favourite series. These books just get better and better! You can read my reviews of previous books in the series here.

I received a copy of Whisper In The Night by DK Hood from the publisher, I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

I’m a big fan of this series, and although the books can be read as standalone books I think that the reader really would get more out of this book if they had read as least some of the previous books. And frankly, if you haven’t read them then you are missing out!

I really like Jenna Alton, Sheriff for a small town in America. The setting is great, it is isolated but big enough to keep the Sheriff busy and the scenery and weather become characters themselves.

Poor Jenna regularly attracts attention from people would wouldn’t want, her job means that her life is often at risk and she has to use all of her skills to keep herself safe. She is lucky to have two deputy’s that will fight to keep her safe.

Which is lucky when the latest killer comes to town, picking on teenagers from the town the Sheriff department think they have a serial killer on the loose, but they have no idea at the lengths the killer will go to as they begin to suspect that Jenna herself might just be the target.

Jenna and her team race to find the killer, desperate to save the missing girls who are being killed off and some pretty gruesome ways. Once again as I read this book I wondered about the author and just how she comes up with these twisted storylines, because they really are twisted!

If you’ve read previous books in this series you will know how this book will go, but the middle bit is a thrilling ride that will keep you guessing and desperate to read more. And if you haven’t read any of this series, then why on earth not?

Blurb:

She opens her eyes and struggles to make out the dark room around her. One thing she knows instantly – her wrists are bound and she’s tied to a chair, unable to move. As she screams for help, she hears footsteps outside. He’s coming…

Fifteen-year-old Lindy Rosen has been having nightmares for weeks, waking in a panic, screaming that there’s a man in her room watching her sleep. Her parents assumed it was her overactive imagination, but when one morning they find Lindy missing from her bedroom, they’re not so sure. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate.

Within hours of the schoolgirl going missing, the kidnapper reaches out to Jenna with a video of Lindy bound and tied to a chair, crying to be set free. And a simple message – you’ve got 24 hours to find her or I kill her.

Jenna’s team work around the clock to try to find Lindy before the deadline, but time runs out, and Jenna receives a devastating message. The killer has made good on his promise. He’s playing a dangerous game. And no one knows what his next move will be.

But just two days later, one of Lindy’s school friends is taken in the middle of the night and the countdown begins again.

Completely addictive from the very start, if you like Lisa Regan, Karin Slaughter and Rachel Abbott you’ll love Whisper in the Night.
