Ok, so it feels a bit like this blog has turned into the Angela Marsons blog, which it kinda has. But, I can’t think of a better author for my blog to focus on. I just love her writing and even since I have lost my reading mojo, I have still read and enjoyed Marsons’ books. But this book, Stolen Ones, has changed something in me. I loved it so much that I remembered what it was like to read and love a book and I then read another book straight after and so, I’m hoping that maybe this book has helped me to find that missing mojo. Which just shows how good it is.

So I’m delighted to be part of the blog tour for Stolen Ones by Angela Marsons and I am really grateful for Kim Nash at Bookouture for sticking with me. I was given a copy of Stolen Ones by Angela Marsons to read, but I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

I absolutely love the DI Kim Stone books by Angela Marsons, and it is hard to believe that this is the fifteenth book in the series. What makes that remarkable, is that every one of those fifteen books has been as good as the others and Marsons has managed to keep the series going and feeling fresh and engaging which is pretty amazing.

But of course, some books will, for whatever reason, stand out and Stolen Ones is definitely one of those for me. From the very first page I was hooked, I remember reading the first five or so pages and having to put it down to collect my children from school and I really didn’t want to stop reading. Marsons’ had hooked me from the very start and that feeling kept me going through the entire book.

I guess that missing children is always going to strike a chord with me, but wow, this book took me on a rollercoaster ride. And as ever, the research that the author puts into her books is obvious and Stolen Ones focuses on body language and I found it fascinating.

If you enjoy thrilling reads that hook you right in then Stolen Ones by Angela Marsons is definitely a book for you. And sure, it is book fifteen in a series but you could read this book without reading the previous books, but if you did do that you would definitely be missing out as this is such a good series.

Today it is my stop on the blog tour for Twisted Lies by Angela Marsons, another cracking read in the Kim Stone series. Thank you to Bookouture for having me on the tour and for a copy of Twisted Lies, I was under no obligation to review the book and all thoughts are my own.

My Review:

How does she do it? That’s what I ask myself every time I read a book in the DI Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons. There are not many series that I keep reading for fifteen books and still love as much as I did at the start, or possibly even more. Most series have lost their way by now, the author struggling to find new and interesting storylines and the characters become stagnant and predictable. Not here though.

I love the characters and watching them grow and it has been great to follow them over the years, there is absolutely nothing stagnant about these books and I love how the passion of the author comes out in her writing. It is clear that she researches thoroughly and writes about subjects that interests her as the passion comes out in the story.

Those of you that have read previous books in the Kim Stone series will know how good this book is going to be. If you haven’t then start with the first book, Silent Scream. You won’t regret it!!

Once again the reader is taken on a twisted journey and I loved every page. I can’t wait for the next book!!

I cannot believe that Deadly Cry by Angela Marsons is the thirteenth book in this fabulous series. I’m delighted to be part of the blog tour for this fabulous book and thank you to Bookouture for a copy of Deadly Cry so that I could review it for the blog tour.

My Review:

Over the years there have been many series that I have enjoyed reading, Patricia Cornwell and Karen Rose spring to mind, they were books that I looked forward to and I loved reading as the characters grew and I could follow them on their journey. But over time the books became less exciting and a bit repetitive and I found myself not rushing to read the new books on release day and eventually not reading the books at all.

It is hard for an author to keep things fresh over a prolonged series, readers get bored and characters stop being interesting. But Angela Marsons’ has bucked that trend, I have loved every book in the Detective Kim Stone series and if anything they get better as the series goes on. Each book can be read as a standalone but if you do that you really will be missing out, not only on the characters back story, but also on some really rather great reads.

I loved Deadly Cry, the storyline is original and kept me guessing all the way through and even when I thought that I had worked out who the baddie was I still hadn’t worked most of it out. This is a thrilling read with a decent death count.

The characters are still brilliant, I love reading about Kim Stone and her team and I am looking forward to the next thirteen books in the series because Angela Marsons has managed to do something really rather amazing, she has created characters that readers love and want to read more of, and she comes up with some cracking storylines.

Silent Scream by Angela Marsons.

It is hard to believe that today marks five years since Silent Scream by Angela Marsons was released. Now, you might be wondering why I am writing a blog post about it because it isn’t like I normally mark a publication anniversary. But Silent Scream is not a normal book.

Silent Scream was the start of a journey, one of ups and downs, laughter and tears and the start of making new friends. Ok, ok, those friends are fictional but that doesn’t make any difference. Twelve books later, and one fabulous prequel, the series is going strong and has sold millions of copies all over the world.

There really is something special about the series that is set in the Black Country and focuses on Detective Inspector Kim Stone and her team. Kim Stone is one amazing character, she has an amazing back story and she is so believable and I would love to meet her and have a good chat. She has led her team through some pretty awful things and some very disturbing crimes and all of the team have grown and evolved over the years.

I think that I can comfortably say that the Kim Stone series is my favourite series that I have read. It is impressive that the series is still going strong after so many books and that is down the Angela Marsons, the fabulous author of the series. It is hard to believe that many publishers turned her books down until Bookouture saw the potential and signed her up. I bet that is a decision that they are delighted with.

I’m not sure what else I can say, hopefully if you haven’t read any of the DI Kim Stone series then I may have convinced you to give them a try. I’m pretty confident that if you have read some or all of the books that you agree with all that I have said.

I have reviewed most, but not all, of the books on my blog because some I read before I started reviewing on here but it is hard to believe that for every one of them, I have given them five stars. Well, where do I start with this one? I am beyond excited to be part of this amazing tour for one of my absolute favourite authors and my favourite series, and it is even more exciting because until today I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone that the book even existed! I know many, many fans of Angela Marsons and her brilliant DI Kim Stone books, we’ve all waited for a new book in the series to be released, we’ve laughed and most of us have cried as we followed the journey of Stone and her team, we’ve read as the characters grew and learnt and gained confidence in themselves and, if you are anything like me, you’ve wondered what it was like at the very beginning.

Well, wonder no more. Angela Marsons has given us such a treat, she has gone back to the beginning when Stone and her team were first introduced to each other and, well, I’m sure you aren’t reading this now because you’re scrolling down to the buy link so you can get reading! Holey Moley, Angela Marsons! This book just confirms what I have always thought, Marsons is an amazing author and I cannot understand why is she not a household name like James Patterson, Val McDermid, Patricia Cornwell and Karen Rose!

I have loved the DI Kim Stone series since I read Silent Scream back in 2015, the series has got better and better and I have loved every single book in the series. I love the character of Kim Stone, her vulnerability that is hidden behind her tough exterior and her heartbreaking childhood make her a complex and interesting character. Her team all contribute to the stories and I know that I am not alone in loving each of them and there is many people who hold grudges against Marsons for some of what she has put her characters through.

What I wasn’t expecting was for Marsons to go back to the beginning and tell us the story of when Kim Stone first met her faithful team, and how they began to pull together as a team despite them appearing to be so very different from each other. But what a blooming brilliant idea it was, I was so excited to read the book that I immediately stopped reading the book I was a third of the way through and started reading First Blood. I just couldn’t wait and I tore through the book and stayed up far later than I should have so that I could finish the book. But it was definitely one of those books where I wanted to get to the end to find out what would happen, but I also didn’t want the book to end because I was enjoying reading it so much.

I just loved reading about the teams first impressions of each other and how they found their strengths and weaknesses that meant that together they were a team that solved even the toughest crimes.

If you have read previous DI Kim Stone books then I doubt you are even reading this as you will have bought the book regardless of what the reviewers had to say, but if you haven’t read an Angela Marsons book before then buy this book, buy it and read it and enjoy the rollercoaster of the rest of the series, you will love every moment of it!

Fatal Promise by Angela Marsons.

My Review:

Regular readers of my book blog will know that I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons and her Kim Stone books. Book nine in the series is out today and the series is as strong as ever and shows absolutely no sign of burning out. Pretty impressive really.

The end of book eight was shocking, it threw readers into shock and increased sales in tissues, so I was interested to see how Marsons was going to deal with the aftermath of that. Of course, it was dealt with perfectly, not too much time had passed between the two books and so the readers got to see how the characters were coping. The main case featured in Fatal Promise also related to the case that had dominated book eight. Very clever.

The only minor thing that I could say about Fatal Promise was the smaller side investigation, it just didn’t seem necessary and detracted from the main story. It was also an interesting case that could have had its own book. And I couldn’t help but think that the character involved with that case really should have learnt their lesson from last time they did something like that!

I don’t really need to say anything more, the millions of books sales that Angela Marsons books have had speak for themselves. These books are brilliant and well worth reading. But do start with book one, although I’m sure that you could pick the series up at any point and enjoy it, you will miss out on some blooming good books!

I am so very, very, excited about Dying Truth by Angela Marsons. If you’ve read my little blog before then you will probably know that Angela Marsons and her DI Kim Stone books are my most favourite series. I will warn you though, if you are reading reviews for Dying Truth then please be careful and make sure that it is a review that gives away no spoilers. I never give spoilers in my reviews so you’re safe here, but do be careful as you absolutely and most definitely do not want to ruin the surprise! Please don’t post any spoilers in comments on here too please, although I’d love to hear what you thought please don’t ruin it for others.

My Review:

Woah!!! I adore the DI Kim Stone books, I’ve read and loved each of them and eagerly wait for a new one to be released.

The fact that this is book eight of the Kim Stone series and is not only going strong but getting better and better is impressive and shows that this series is something special. It is hard for an author to keep a character going for so long and keep the readers engaged and wanting more. Angela Marsons has sold millions of books and if you read one or two of them then you will see why.

Anyway, back to Dying Truth. Once again Kim’s instincts are correct, something is going on at a very exclusive boarding school where a student supposedly jumped to her death. Kim and her team of reliable detectives who all play an important part in working together to solve the crimes.

Fans of the series will be excited to hear that Dr Alex Thorne makes a guest appearance in Dying Truth, this is the third book in the series that she has appeared in and once again she makes a big impression.

The one thing that I will remember Dying Truth for is the completely unexpected curve ball thrown at the reader, something that you will not see coming and something that will shock you. I will say no more but I think that there may need to be some support groups set up for readers to help them cope with this book.

It is a fabulous book and I have so much respect for Angela Marsons. She’s one hell of a writer and this really is an amazing series. If you haven’t read any of the Kim Stone books before then you really really should, but do start at the beginning with Silent Scream, although I’m sure that you could read Dying Truth as a standalone you really would be missing out if you don’t start at the beginning. And if you have read the previous seven then bump Dying Truth to the top of your reading pile and enjoy!

Saturday 7.52 p.m.

Kim knew that her left leg was broken.

She pulled herself along the path on her hands as the stone bit into her palms, shards of gravel embedding beneath her fingernails.

A cry escaped her lips as her ankle turned and pain shot around her body.

Sweat beads were forming on her forehead as the agony intensified.

Finally, she saw the light from the building as three familiar shapes hurtled out of the doorway.

All three of them headed towards the bell tower.

‘Nooo…’ she cried, as loudly as she could.

No one turned.

Don’t go up there, she willed silently, trying to pull herself towards them.

‘Stop,’ she shouted out as they entered the metal doorway at the base of the tower.

Kim tried to still the panic as they disappeared from view.

‘Damn it,’ she screamed with frustration, unable to reach them in time.

She gathered all her strength and pushed herself up to a standing position, trying to drag her broken leg behind her as though it didn’t exist.

Two steps forward and the pain radiated through her body like a tidal wave and brought her back down to the ground. She gagged as the nausea rose from her stomach and her head began to swim.

She shouted again but the figures had disappeared from view and were now in the belly of the tower, behind solid brick, mounting the stone steps to the top.

‘Please, someone help,’ she screamed, but there was no one to hear. She was a good eighty metres away from the school, and she had never felt so helpless in her life.

Kim felt the ache that started in her heart when the remaining figure and the swinging bell rope disappeared from view.

But no one else was around.

Regular readers of this blog will know how much I love Angela Marsons and her DI Kim Stone novels. I’ve read them from the beginning before they became super popular and earned Marsons’ numerous bestsellers in many languages across the world. All of the books are written so that they can be read as a standalone but I strongly suggest that if you have yet to read any Kim Stone books, that you start with Silent Scream, the first book in the series.

 

My Review:

As a huge fan of Angela Marsons and DI Kim Stone, the bar was set very high for this, the sixth book in the series. I’m always excited to read a new Kim Stone book, but a little bit worried that I might not like it.

I certainly didn’t need to worry about Dead Souls. Right from the start, it sucked me in and I absolutely loved reading it. The book talks a lot about hate crimes, something that is not always easy to read but feels so very topical in a post-Brexit world. Marsons had clearly researched the subject at length and this shone through in the writing and storyline and giving the reader plenty to think about.

I loved how Stone was given new challenges and taken away from the comfort of her team and especially her sidekick Bryant. But we also got to know more about the rest of her team which was great, especially Stacey who until now has been a small but important character in the books, this time she got to do a lot more than sitting at her desk searching the computer, it reminded the rest of the team, and the readers, that she is a police officer and not just a computer geek.

Of course, things for Stone and her team don’t go smoothly and the finale is a tense and shocking read. I really don’t know how Marsons manages to keep the standard of writing so high, so many times you start a new series and love it but as time goes on they start to become a bit old and predictable, not so with this series, each one has been a brilliant read and this one, I think, might just be the best yet.
